CENSUS:

This report presents population projections for the period of 2013 to 2035 at National level, Tanzania Mainland and Tanzania Zanzibar. These population projections were made using Cohort Component Technique; of Rural Urban Projection Program (RUP) that was developed by the US Census Bureau, and Spectrum System which is a computer package that analyses existing informat ion to determine the future consequence of today’s development programmes and policies. These projections included three components for population change, namely: fertility, mortality and migration.

Population and Housing Census

The 2012 Population and Housing Census (PHC) for United Republic of Tanzania was carried out on the 26 August, 2012. This was the fifth Census after the Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964. Other Censuses were carried out in 1967, 1978, 1988 and 2002. The 2012 PHC, like others, will contribute to the improvement of quality of life of Tanzanians through the provision of current and reliable data for development planning, policy formulation and services delivery as well as for monitoring and evaluating national and international development frameworks.
This report presents the methodology and population projections based on the 2012 Population and Housing Census (PHC) data. The projection exercise was undertaken by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Government Statistician, Zanzibar (OCGS). The results include projections of the total population by sex in single years and five-year age groups; and summary of some demographic indicators.
Gender dimension report provides a short descriptive analysis and related tables on using 2012 Population and Housing Census (PHC). Areas covered are population by age and sex; household characteristics and gender. Other topics are education and literacy; economic activity and gender; and Disability. In many cases, characteristics have been disaggregated by location (rural and urban) and where possible comparisons have been made with past census to observe the trend over time.
Since in 2012 during Population and Housing Census, Zanzibar had a total of 5 regions are of Zanzibar; all are committed to sustainable and equitable development. This atlas is designed to serve both National and Regional level of governance by displaying information at scales equitable to either of them, thereby promoting informed decision-making and planning. At the same time, atlas aims to enhance the knowledge of Zanzibar citizens and the broader public regarding the diversity of situations and developments in this fascinating country.
The atlas mainly depicts the results of 2012 National Population and Housing Census (PHC).
The Monograph has five chapters. Chapter One gives an overview of the 2012 PHC, Chapter Two is on education structure in the country and Chapter Three analyses literacy status in the country as depicted in the Census. Chapter Four is on school attendance and the conclusion and policy implications are elaborated in the last chapter.

The Mortality and Health Monograph provides in-depth analysis of the level, trend and pattern of mortality in Tanzania. Specifically, it analyses and provides information on infant, child, under-five, adult and maternal mortality indicators using data from the 2012 Population and Housing Census (PHC). Where data allows, comparisons are made with estimates from previous censuses, other sources as well as with other countries. The information is presented at national level then disaggregated by the area of Tanzania Mainland and Tanzania Zanzibar, rural and urban. It is also disaggregated by the 30 administrative regions in the country (25 in Tanzania Mainland and 5 in Tanzania Zanzibar). In general the analysis presented in this report shows that there was a decline in mortality as compared to the previous census.
The 2012 Population and Housing Census (PHC) has the Economic Activity as one of its important monographs which are published along with general census results.
The monograph serves as a means of providing deep analysis of specific sub themes of the population characteristics which are likely to receive less attention in the general census results.
This Economic Activity Monograph is based on the economically active population. The results included in this monograph will be of great value to planners and policy makers in the field of labour market in Tanzania.
